When William Penn founded Pennsylvania in 1681, he specifically intended for the Commonwealth to grow hemp. In 1683, one of the first laws passed by the General Assembly was a law to encourage every farmer to grow hemp. This rich history of hemp growing was put on hold in the 1930’s, however, this all changed in 2018 when Pennsylvania passed the Farm Bill which legalized hemp cultivation.

With this new legislation, a co-op of multi-generational Amish and non-Amish farmers banded together to form 717 Hemp. “The 717,” or Susquehanna Valley, is renowned for its nutrient rich soil and producing robust and flavorful crops.

Our process starts by hand planting seedlings, to harvesting mature plants, and finishing by processing the CBD oil, 717 Hemp performs all of these steps in house to ensure that our high quality standards are met. 717 Hemp is committed to producing the best possible product at an affordable price so that everyone has the ability to improve their health and wellbeing with the rejuvenating powers of CBD.

Our Process

Before a single plant is placed in the ground agro scientists analyze each individual farms soil and water. What is created is a unique nutrient profile that ensures optimal growth. Then non-GMO seeds are planted in a greenhouse to guarantee strength in the seedlings. The utmost care is put into cultivating the plants without the use of any pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. That’s because we believe in only using sustainable and environmentally-conscious farming methods.

At harvest time, samples of the mature hemp plants are sent to an Independent Lab. These tests ensure compliance with Laws regarding THC levels, assess CBD Concentration, and to confirm that no chemicals or mycotoxins are in the plant material.

Next, the raw hemp is processed in our own facility so that we can control and monitor the extraction to crude oil. 717 Hemp uses a CO2 extraction process, which takes longer than other methods, and is more expensive to use, but produces a higher quality end-product.
